boosting the JDM H22

just got a JDM H22A swapped into my Accord and I am ready for the next step.....turbo. I want to be able to run up to 8 lbs. 6 lbs isn't too bad either. My concern is my compression ratio....which is 10.6. Without changing my internals, what are other ways for me to lower my compression so that I can boost safely? What is the maximum amount of boost I will be able to run? What tips do you have for me?

P.S. There is a FMAX USDM Prelude running 12lbs daily on his stock internals with his compression lowered by an rIDEAL head gasket (which I believe lower the cr from 10.0 to about 9.25 or so). Is that reasonable?

This post isn't talking about turbo parts. I asked a specific question that I needed to be answered...so beware of that b4 you post again.

www.group5motorsport.com has the FMAX manifold for $475
www.turbo-performance.com has them for two different prices depending on the material you want.

Well, I am by no means a Honda engine expert. I can tell you that using a head gasket to change your compression is a BAD way to do it. The best way is to change your pistons. Doing things the right way just costs more, but you get what you pay for. Do it the right way and fork out some cash or do it the wrong way and ruin the motor.

I wouldn't really suggest more than six pounds on stock internals with no intercooler because detonation can become a problem. You will want to take your compression anywhere from 8:1 to 9.5:1. That is my suggestion, some people will say you can go higher, and you can, but you can also be expecting to be rebuilding the motor as well.

Hey turbo Prelude owners...where are you guys?

I still want to boost around 6 lbs. I'll probably boost around 4 lbs daily though. 6lbs will be for racing..I guess. i have heard some concerns on other forums about the H22 ring lands and how they aren't strong. What kinda H22 setups are out there? What would be my best bet in terms of reaching my goal of 6lbs on my stock internals?

You can effectively boost 6lbs on the stock H22, bottom line, you may even be able to squeexe out safely. You want more you must spend more to build more.. Things are destined to go bad anyways. I recommend building it up before installing a turbo, just to be safe and have the confidence that it will last longer. Just my opinion.. Good luck

a thicker, properly constructed head gasket will work fine, but in a boosted application will become an even weaker link than it already is. just make sure your head studs are up to the task.

Cometic makes a decent headgasket, so rIdeal isnt your only avenue.
to further add a measure of safety, retard the timing with an MSD BTM... static compression isnt nearly as important as dynamic compression as long as static isnt too high to control.

You have a boosted LUDE. What mods did you do to your block? What kinda management/suppliment systems do you have to control detonation etc.? How much boost u running? What's the deal with H22 ring lands...sounds scary.

Dude if you want to boost 6lbs on stock internals then go for it dude. I see nothing wrong with that. You should be ok. I would not recommend going up to 8lbs until you get some more fuel upgrades.

For more added information, I plan to run like a custom FMAX kit. I plan to get the ERL MF2, the 2 440cc injectors, a MSD-6BTM, and some headgasket that will lower my compression to around 9.9.

Hey drift, sorry about the H22, but I want to know much boost you were running when it went. What part actually went bad?
