New stereo problem. (unused wires + constant and switched 12v have to be crossed)

Ok, last stereo got stolen... I just finished hooking up the new one. The last was a little 30amp tape player, and an external amp. So I got a 200amp CD player with a AUX hookup, great for the MP3 Player. Now I've got a problem. The Gray Illumination, Brown Dimmer, and Pink Antenna Trigger wires aren't hooked up. Is this ok? (the antenna was broke long ago anyway) There is nothing to hook them up to so I just wrapped them up in tape. I also have an unknown dark green wire, not the right front (-) speaker wire, but another just like it. Everything works without this connected, just wondering what it is.

The other BIG problem I have is that I have to connect the Constant and Switched 12v wires together to get the player to power up. (oddly, this also fixed the broken seatbelt chime) The player has a 15amp Constant and a smaller switched wire, I tried switching them but unless they are all four connected the player won't work. Will this run down the battery? (guess I'll find out in the morning... ) The player turns off with the car and won't turn on unless the car is on.

Just checking if I did anything horribly wrong, lol. Thanks for the help.

um...Any way to keep people from stealing the new one? Other than removing the faceplate every night and locking the doors? I didn't lock the door last time...

Re: New stereo problem. (unused wires + constant and switched 12v have to be crossed

Well, now I'm a little weirded out. The car started up fine so I guess I'll leave it the way it is. Odd though, now that the new stereo is in the chime works (I've had the car for 3 years, never knew I had one...?) the horn also works now... how are the horn and chime connected to the stereo? Also, the dome light won't come on when the driver door is opened. The light does comes on when any other door is open. This is new since the stereo.

go back thru and recheck every wire according to the diagrahm. also need to know what model/style of radio or what year of car you have. also check the fuse for the radio in the fusebox, the dash has one constant and one for switched power, evidently only the switched power one works.

Re: New stereo problem. (unused wires + constant and switched 12v have to be crossed

Ops...sorry. The radio is a Panasonic CQ-C1305U 50w x 4 <br>Its got 8 speaker wires that I know are correct.&nbsp; An External Amp control lead (not yet connected), ground, battery lead, and a Acc lead.&nbsp; The battery lead and Acc leads are twisted and connected to the two power wires.&nbsp; <br><br>I got the car wire color codes from here <a href="http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1669.html">http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/stereodetail/1669.html</a><br><br><br>It's a 1990 Olds Delta 88 Royal Brougham...&nbsp; I double checked the wiring and fuses.&nbsp; There was a 20amp fuse in the 10amp place, fixed it, now the horn and dome light and center console wont work.&nbsp; I think the problem may be the fuse box, only about half the places even have fuses, the horn not being on of them.&nbsp; I'll take it to the shop after payday and have them look at it as I am to fat to be working behind the dash. :-P&nbsp; I didn't get a full list, I'll just have the shop check it out.&nbsp; I checked the Panasonic site and couldn't find anything helpful.&nbsp; The constant wire is for the clock function right? It will reset it's self whenever I remove the faceplate anyway, which I have to so I can keep it, lol,&nbsp; So as long as it's not draining the battery I'm ok with it.&nbsp; The only wire I cant account for is the dark green one.&nbsp; Not the speaker one, but another just like it.&nbsp; I thought this was the antenna wire since I couldn't find one, but this didn't work.&nbsp; All the speakers and stereo functions work (other than radio) it's not draining the battery when the car is off.&nbsp; It sounds great.&nbsp; Why am I complaining?&nbsp; LOL&nbsp; <br><br>Thanks for the reply.&nbsp; <br>
