Fog Lights
Anyone Know where to get replacement Fog lights. The whole housing not just the bulbs. On my 2000 Intrigue one bulb had melted through the housing and inside is screwed. The other the lens was fogged over and the bulb was completly rotted to nothing.
Hoppy, you were going to check our local scrap yards a few months ago. What did you find? |

Re: Fog Lights
I went down to millers and they have mixed up all of the cars and trucks in their yard. They don't have the gms fords and chryco's in their own rows any more so, my buddy who works there said it is a luck thing to find the vehicle you want to look at. Apparently they had a copule of intrigues in there but I could not find any. I actually gave up because you have to look through every car and truck there. I may go down again some time to see if I can find one again, but hopefully this time they are a bit more organized.
I have started shopping in the states again because of the dollar. I have to get more parts for my truck. When I go, I will ask there at pep boys and advanced auto if they sell them. I won't know till next week though. |

Re: Fog Lights
I seen an intrigue today with aftermarket fog lights mounted where the stocks usually go. It looked pretty good. I guess its all about finding the same general shape of light housing and making it work.

Re: Fog Lights
Harmon,
What kind of fog lights were they? Or what brand do you think they were? I am dying to put them in my base model Intrigue. I have the fog lights in my explorer and absolutely love them, especially after bypassing the relay that shuts them off when you turn on the high beams. I swore I would always have them on all of my vehicles, especially after buying my explorer with them factory installed. The night illumination is way way way better with them. |

Re: Fog Lights
I agree...I cant stand that "dark hole" from the front of my car to where the headlight beam starts. Foglights fill that in nicely. I wouldnt know the brand of lights they were...they werent the exact same shape as the originals, but they were long and thin...so they fit nicely. What would fit nice is the headlights I had in my camaro....model #h4351. Basically little mini sealed beam headlights. Problem would be mounting them. Ill look around some of the light sites for you (PIAA, APC etc...)

Re: Fog Lights
ever think of making a plate to fill in the factory slot, and mounting smaller round lights in them? Sort of like a projector model halogen. Ive seen that done to alot of cars before. It would look nice on an intrigue too...

Re: Fog Lights
That might be a good option too, if I can't find orignal factory lights. But if I don't have to custom mount and fit that would be the way I would like to go. Either way though I could still use the factory installed lighting and switching.
If I was to fill the slot and mount projectors I might double the lights and have a set of driving lights and a set of fog lights. I forget the difference one is on with the low beams and the other is one with the high beam head lights. |

Re: Fog Lights
I just looked at http://www.car-parts.com
I searched for a right-side foglamp and came up with about 2 pages of results, some wanted as little as 20 bucks, others as much as 70. Plus it would have to be shipped. I still say a local scrap yard, or Ebay or something of that nature. Personally Ive never found the fog lights on my Intrigue to be that bright, I just drive with them on because they look cool.

I really am looking to get them more for looks than for their usefuleness. I think the car looks better with them. and I always think a car looks better with fog lights on. BUt min looked UGLY...Milky White on on side, fogged and grey on the other side and neither worked. I really have an ugly situation now. I removed the one (yes only one) and I refuse to do more (put it back or remove the other) until I decide on a solution. |

Re: Fog Lights
When i went to get replacment bulbs, the bulb for the intrigue was 801 or something like that (not sure)...but they were 14 dollars each at wal-mart. Then i noticed another bulb that was IDENTICAL exept the tip of the bulb didnt have that black coating on it...same wattage, same connector. It was only 4 dollars per bulb! and without that black tip on the bulb they were definatly brighter (sure they glare a bit more but i dont think its too bad) So next time your in the auto parts store look for a bulb that identical to the replacment for the intrigue without the black tip...save some $$ and have brighter lights.

Re: Fog Lights
Whats the bulb number on that?
Sounds similar to what you can do with the headlight bulbs. A 9005 (hi-beam) bulb will fit in a 9006 (low-beam) socket if you remove the tab on the socket of the bulb.

Re: Fog Lights
Any one know if the Buick Regal fogs will fit the intrigue? I know I've seen this question before...either here or on oldsmobileforums.com.
They are only like $30 a side at Rock Auto |

Well one of my foglights burned out, so I replaced it with one I had laying around, that lasted a day and it burnt out. Im hoping that was a fluke. But to my point, I dropped by Autozone and decided to find the bulbs that harmankardon mentioned and I did. The OE bulb for the Intrigue is the 893, which is a 37.5 watt bulb... I did some looking around and found the 885 which is identical to the 898 except it doesnt have the black tip, AND its also a 50 watt bulb...and theyre basically the same price. I just finished installing them and they do seem brighter, they would have to be. The only problem I had was locking them in place once the bulb was in the housing. They turned VERY hard, Im thinking the rubber material around the base of the bulb may be a little thicker, I didnt bother to compare that. Bottom line 885 bulbs fit Intrigue fog lights, theyre 12 watts brighter without the black tip.

Re: Fog Lights
the idea behind the black tip is to meet DOT requirments for driving lights. I guess there is too much glare directly off of the bulb, the same thing is on headlights. The older headlights have the black tips but the newer ones (like the intrigue) has a cap that goes directly over the bulb ...Personally I think the foglights in the intrigue aren't bright enough with the 37 watt bulb (i couldn't tell weather they were on or off at night) But with the brighter bulbs without the black tip I can tell the difference because it fills in the dark spot beside and in front of the car. I found the bulbs at Partsource for around $4 each, this was in Canada. The OE bulbs were $14 each...so cheaper and brighter!
