airbag light
my dad has a 91 trans am and his airbag light is on,it flickers while driving down the road but wont go off anyone know whats wrong or how to fix it,were scared the bag might come out if not fixed thx for reply's.

If I were a gambling man, my moeny would be on a wiriing issue, probably in the column.
I too would be nervous of a false detonation given the age, nothing should happen, but I just hate air bags in general. |

Your airbag light is on due to a fualt code stored in the DERM (Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module). On your vehicle there are 2 sensors. Either one could have failed causing the light to come on. When the indicator light is on, the airbag system will not operate. This particular vehicle needs to have the DERM reset after the problem is repaired, and in my experience, the sensor that fails most often is the one in the dash. This requires removal of the dashboard for access. Our company repairs airbag systems on a daily basis.
