ok,

once in a while my car would crank pretty long to start, and other time fire as soon as i turned the key. this has gone on for about a month.


today i was driving and i saw the tach bounce up about 1000 rpm, and then settle, about 40 seconds later the car stalled and wouldent restart. i checked my fuel pressuse and its at 55 pounds, and my shop teacher looked at it and told me i have no spark.

WHERE SHOULD I START

i dont want to just throw money around, and i need to get to school and work

any idea's?

BTW i had the fuel pump done about 6 months ago, it doesnt have any probloms

When the tach jumped, did the enigne actually rev? I'm thinking not and something went awry in the camshaft position sensor circuit.

would that cause it to refuse to start though>?

it stalled and WILL not restart, you get luck y and it will run for about 5-8 seconds then stall again, but that only happened once.

You didn't answer the question, whe the tach "jumped" did the engine actually rev 1K rpm over normal? opcorn:

no it was soley the tach moving, no engine



sooooo, how hard is this gonna be to do?


also, does that have to do with hard starting also?

The sensor itself is easy, one little screw holding it in place. They're normally right on the timing cover. I haven't heard much about the longitudal version of the 3.8, but the transverse 3.8's are prone to this type of problem stemming from the cam sensor and it's magnet on the camshaft. If the magnet is gone, that will require removal of the timing cover, and a wise ides to replace the timing & water pump.

It's the reference signal used by the ignition system to determine when to fire, absolutely.

so we replaced the bad Crankshaft Position sensor, and now, the thing is not getting fuel pulses to the injectors, i wont be able to get to it till monday, did i eff somthing up whit the harmonic balancer?
