need some help please

i own a 1997 K1500 4x4, and when it is in 4x4 it makes a wobbly metal to metal clunk noise in the drivers side front, sounds like a bad u joint but we just replaced the front shafts and all the brakes and greased everything that could be greased, we were told it could be a wheel bearing but wouldnt it make the noise all the time?? we were thinking maybe it could be a lockout.....
thanks for any help

Did it make the noise before you replaced the halfshafts? If not, you may have received bad parts. Also double check that the nut on the outter end of the shaft is tight.

If the wheel bearing is loose, it could definately cause a noise.

Unless you upgraded to a solid front axle in this IFS truck, you dont have lockouts. The halfshafts are disconnected at the front differential using a solenoid. Since the differential is under the right side of the truck, I would not expect that to cause a noise in the left, but noises can come from weird places.
