Since winter is comming up

My 98 has problems starting in the winter and will die a couple times after getting her started. took her to a mechanic last year and the couldnt get her to replicate it. It was a warmer day than the day before. And they want it to replicate so they know what is going on. So Im wondering what the problem could be and how i can fix it without spending big bucks on a mechanic to diagnose what the problem is and i was hoping that some of you have had a similar experience and what you did to alieveate the problem. She only does it when it is cold and starts just fine when it is warm. So I and the mechanic I took it to is baffeled on what it could be.

My guess would be that the car has the 3.1L V-6. Would that be the case?

More information would be helpful. When the engine starts, will it idle on its own or is it necessary to depress the accelerator to keep it running?

Has the fuel pressure been tested?

Have the throttle body and IAC been cleaned?

Has the vacuum been tested? Several areas of the 3.1 V-6 have common vacuum problems. There is a vacuum "T" fitting on the top of the throttle body which has rubber sealing bushing around its base. This bushing is subject to deterioration and significant leakage. Leakage at this connection can cause stalling.

There is a crankcase breather tube on the rear rocker cover which frequently falls out of its connection, and the breather tube itself can deteriorate, crack, and fail. Leakage at this connection can cause mixture problems, incorrect data to the PCM, poor mileage, and stalling.

There are numerous other possible and potential causes, but those are fairly common and easily checked.
