95 Windstar uneven break pad wear
My 95 windstar wears out the passenger side front pads while the driver side pads are still good. The driver's side caliper works when pedal is pressed and there is no visible caliper leakage. Could there be interior leakage in the caliper causing the problem? Could the proportioning valve be the issue? The car has 195,000 miles on it.

Re: 95 Windstar uneven break pad wear
The caliper pistons on that side are probably sticking. No leak required to cause this problem - it's just the caliper continuing to put pressure on the pads after the brake pedal has been released.
Replace the caliper. Personally, I'd replace both sides if you're planning to keep the vehicle: The other side is probably close to failing as well.

Re: 95 Windstar uneven break pad wear
If that doesnt fix it your flex/rubber line could have collapsed on the inside and leaves the caliper piston slightly engaged.

I had a bad proportioning valve (once) and bad rear wheel cylinders (twice) at 85k and 131k miles. I didn't do the work so I hadn't seen if the pads were unevenly worn, but on another vehicle my pads in the rear only were unevenly worn and I have to replace the prop valve soon cause EVERY other brake part on the brake system has been replaced with new parts. It is the only thing left on my car that could be the culprit to the uneven wear on the rears and the lack of stopping power.
Also, I replaced my front calipers a while back after 131k too. I have gone through (attempted) the rigors of rebuilding a caliper and I can tell you I just is not worth it at all. For your time and effort it is too complicated and mostly too hard to get as clean as you need to get it. I'd replace the two front calipers just for the hell of it ESPECIALLY at 195k miles!!!! MAN I'm surprised they are still working !!! Definitely FLUSH the system thoroughly too. If that doesn't fix your problem I'd look at the prop valve and/or rear wheel cylinders for leakage anyway.. I'm pretty certain the cylinders will be leaking. CHECK the rear cylinders etc.. for leakage before you open the system up.... before the flushing etc... such to not waste brake fluid... cause if you do have leaks in the back (which I'm pretty sure you will have) you need to fix that anyway. Maybe you'll be lucky about not having rear leaks or bad prop valve, but I'd be surprised. You should also check at this point to see if your rotors are still within OEM spec width (need a micrometer for this and the spec width of course).. if they are original rotors I am willing to bet they are beyond gone. This could also be part of your problem. I'd definitely check the condition of the rubber brake lines too. If cracking... replace. Also, FYI - I have a 95 like you.... we seem to be RARE. lol
