2002 montana back-up sensors

When we bought this van the back-up sensors never worked, though the red light blinks when in reverse (no sound or amber light), is there any simple solution to this problem?

Somewhere in this forum there is the same question question posted by me about my 2003 and someone answered it. What you are talking about is park assist and there is a diagnostic plug I beleive when standing at the rear of the van with the hatch open look to the small panel on the right near the seatback. I beleive its under there, how to get that small panel off I don't know.
