Motor Swap (will it work?)

I have a problem. I have a 95 sl2 with the 1.9L Dohc and the motor is shot. I have a motor out of a 94 sc2 and everyone tells me it won't work. I am confused on why. I am aware of the only a 95 motor will work in other 95 GM cars but I thought Saturns were ok? I know it is possible to use a 93 quad 4 motor in a 95 because I HAVE done it, and it took a while and a few custom parts but my grand am is still running and driveing today. My question is what makes the saturns different? I would hate to go find another overpriced motor. PLEASE HELP [email protected]

One thing off the top of my head is that 95 uses an electric EGR valve and 94 uses a vacuum EGR valve. That problem is easily fixed with an EGR adapter that were used on 94 California cars. I have also seen people drill new holes in the 95 EGR valve to fit the 94 head. There may be more differences that I can't remember but I'll poke around.

That would be great if you could do some poking. SO if the only difference (so far) would be the mounting holes if I used my current (95) EGR valve? Also it is possible for me drill the unit and have it fit the older engine and it would hook up to everything esle ok? I hope it is that easy. Let me know Thanks a bunch

I have seen redrilled electric EGR valves that work just fine but I'm a bit of a purist and it just seems like a cheesy fix to me.

Also, if you stripped the engines down to the long block and re-used the intake and sensors from your car on the replacement engine, everything should work just fine, after solving the EGR problem of course. The only internal difference on Saturn engines that would cause problems is if you were wanting to swap in an engine from a 91 or 92. The crank reluctor ring is ten degrees offset relative to later years.

I did the motor in my 92 i got the motor out of a 93 both sl2 but the sl and sc have the same motor and they dident change to obd2 till 96 shouldent the egr be the same befor 96

from what ive read, '92 was the wierdest of years for the s-series and the only swaps that are possible are from '91-'92. anything after that is no good or requires ALOT of moding
