Focus wont downshift...

This literally happened overnight. Yesterday I could shift fine, but today I can not get into gear if I try to downshift while driving. Everything works fine if I'm virtually stopped (anywhere under about 10-15mph) but if I try to down-shift while driving it will not go into the gears at all, almost like they're not there.

It works fine shifting up, and seems to drive fine in gear so I'm hoping it's a reasonable problem, not a bad clutch or worse.

Could be the synchros. Try double clutching. If that works it's the synchros. It is possible the clutch needs to be bled. Might have some air in the slave unit and not be fully engaged when you step on the clutch.

Re: Focus wont downshift...

Update:

This afternoon the clutch pedal completely stopped working, goes straight to the floor with no effect, so I'm pretty sure it's the linkage.

Does it make sense that downshifting would have gone before the rest if the linkage was going out?
