Re: clearing up hazy headlights on gm

I think we are going to start seeing more products for problems like that. It amazes me at how many vehicles I see going down the road where the lenses to the headlamps are so faded and cloudy due to the UV rays of the sun. They gets so deteriorated . I wonder if the automakers took this into consideration when they developed the plastic lenses for their vehicles? Pretty soon you will be able to buy new ones for most vehicles, (they are already available aftermarket for the GM minivans,) and then these items will be considered "normal wear items" that will need replacement sometime in the vehicle's lifetime.

Re: clearing up hazy headlights on gm

I have used some similar (not Mother's) product on my '97 that does the same, but within a week or two it faded back to the hazy/yellowy look. I will try the Mother's though. I found a guy that said he would sand down the surfaces and polish them back to clear for $45 each. I wonder what replacement ones cost. Anyone?

Re: clearing up hazy headlights on gm

A quick check of eBay found this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/chevy...spagenameZWDVW .
There are other vendors that sell these on that site as well. You also can buy them singly, and even used ones,(although if you were keeping the van for a long time , I'd opt for the new ones as the used ones will probably fade quicker because they already had a head start in that department.)
Seems I saw these earlier this year cheaper than what they are selling them now. Back when I started having problems with mine in 2002, I checked the stealership's parts dept., and they wanted something like $249.00/each back then.

Re: clearing up hazy headlights on gm

Hey Guys,

I just check these on GMPARTSDIRECT.COM and found them for $107 each. I was looking because my wife bumped into a guy making an illegal left turn and both headlamps have small cracks causing them to fill with water. I need to check car-parts.com for used ones.

Re: clearing up hazy headlights on gm

Did a quick search yesterday and found them for around $65 each plus $14 or so for shipping. Cannot go back or recall the site. It may have been ebay though. For the water in the lenses, on my 97, I drilled a few small holes where the front and bottom meet through the plastic. Worked like a charm and still does. Make sure the holes are at the bottom so that water from the front does't get driven in. Went to Autozone yesterday and picked up some MaGuire's PLASTX which they claim from their customers is the best stuff for cleaning the fading/hazing from the lenses.

Thanks for the source. I will try cleaning them first since I do not know how much longer I will be keeping my 97. Tahoe's are looking pretty good as an alternative.
