98 Z71 temp gauge
I have a 98 Z71 Silverado. Temp gauge when I first start up will go to 210 mark and then come back down. I have changed the thermostat and both sensor control units also had it power flushed. Now the gauge will jump between 185 to just below the 210 mark on the gauge after it has warmed up but doesn't over heat. The gauge used to to stay steady at around 195. Any advice or just live with it. Thanks

Re: 98 Z71 temp gauge
Have you done a preasure test on the cooling system?
When it jumps, does it jump quick or slowly. if it is jumping rapidly, it could be a bad instrument cluster. I am trying to remember when I had my 93 Silverado. I remember it would do that too. It wouldn't go past 210 so I never really was too concerned, but I did replace the thermostat but I do not remember if it made a differance or not.

Re: 98 Z71 temp gauge
yea the first thing that i would do is a pressure test. if it passes that test then i would think about checking the clutch fan. if it is going bad it could cause the temp to rise and fall depending if the clutch is just starting to go or not.
