Re: Idle stop solenoid????

The idle stop solenoid gets energized when the ignition is on and/or when the A/C compressor is on (it varied among several years and designs). The purpose is to allow the engine to maintain a reasonable idle RPM, yet to almost completely close the throttle when teh engine is turned off to prevent (or minimize) dieseling. Since the engines are tuned to run very lean and quite warm at idle, they would tend to diesel (run on) without some controls.

When i first got my car it did the same exact thing. It hasnt happened since. Although, sometimes i turn the ignition of really fast or sometimes slow expecting it to diesel and it doesnt. Maybe sometimes the solinoid just gets stuck and doestn immediately close when you turn off the ignition, i'm just taking a guess at that.

Re: Idle stop solenoid????

Could be that, i remember it did it right as i ironicly pulled into the shop to have the timing adjusted which could have cause the dieseling too.
