Re: gear shift

Do you happen to be parked on a fairly steep incline? Did the car roll slightly after you put it in park and let off the brake pedal? If so, the parking prawl may be tightly wedged and require some force to get it to disengage.

If you are pretty sure that is not the problem, then you might have a faulty brake pedal switch and/or park shift lock actuator that prevents the gear shift from being able to move unless your foot is on the brake pedal and the key is in the ignition in the RUN position. If your brake lights don't work, then this is most likely the issue. Check the 15-amp fuse #1 in the Instrument Panel fuse box. This fuse provides power for the brake pedal switch/shift lock.

Re: gear shift

If it is the prawl, you need to man-handle the shift lever. Or somehow release the load on the drive wheels/transaxle planetary gear.

Re: gear shift

Another words, get someone to push on it or pull it uphill just enough to take the vehicle's weight off the prawl.

Re: gear shift

Right, I just didn't want to suggest they have someone standing in front of or behind a 3600 lb car when they shift it out of park on an incline.
