EGR malfunction

My friend has a 1996 probe GT, and the OBD II and the code showed up an EGR malfunction. Can anyone suggest the cause or a way to fix this as a DIY job rather than taking it to a mechanic or a shop? thanks.

Re: EGR malfunction

On my Escort EGR there is a solenoid that routes the vacuum to the EGR. That could be the problem or it could be the EGR itself.
