03 Grand AM Code P1441

My daughter's GrandAM (4 cylinder) has been listing the 1441 code all summer, without any apparent problems otherwise. Now she seems to be having trouble starting the car, but only when she fills up with gas. If reacts like an old carburated model, seems like it floods, and she has to put her foot to the floor to get started.
So I am suspecting the 1441 code is telling us something...EVAP System Flow During a non-purge.

In searching all over this site I have found some useful information, but it is mostly dealing with other models, not the Grand AM. (or I missed it)
Would someone be able to tell me where the purge line and canister is on the vehicle. I can probably check the selonides and lines myself, and if not, the take it to a professional. Thanks for your help.(cars were easier to fix in the 70s )

Re: 03 Grand AM Code P1441

mine does this also... maybe not as bad

of out of all the performance mods I have done with the throttle body and ignition... those only slightly helped

it could be the IAC motor, its a black motor mounted near the top of the throttle body... if you can get the motor off and inspect it to see if there is any carbon build up... that should help the issue

any good carbon cleaner in a can should help, also spray into where the IAC sits in... do a good soak, let it sit... then spray again to see if you can get it to break away

also, on the IAC motor, do not adjust or tamper with the spring... just clean, if messed up a new one (for me anyways) costed like $70 or something... I had only bought a new one because there was to much carbon to clean! lol

Sounds like the purge valve is not working or a line is loose/cracked.

Under the car above the rear axle you will see a canister and a small black plastic box with a hose and a wire connector, thats the purge valve.

While you are under there I'd check all the hoses for tightness,
the clamps get loose over time due to hose shrinkage.

Hope that helps

Yes, it does help very much. Thanks xeroinfinity. That is what I was looking for, the location, and now have a place to start this weekend when the car is here.
