heating problems with my 92 taurus 3.8
as said in the title i have a 92 taurus with a 3.8 and ive been having heating problems...i start my car up for work every morning and after running for 15 minutes i get in the car and it is blowing cold air..but after awhile when im driving it starts to blow warm air..it seems the faster i go the warmer the air and the temp gauge usually sticks at just above normal and doesnt move..what could the problem be...could i need a flush or should i change the thermostat...let me know what u think thanks

It could be a bad heater core or a bad thermostat. I had a similar problem in my 01 taurus, the thermostat was stuck shut and I had no heat.

In addition to the thermostat, you could also have issues with the water pump. Water pumps have been a weak point on many of the Taurii. Use the "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page to search for the keyword "impeller."

the temp level in my car never gets to the hot position it is way more towards the cold so could it still be the water pump then, because i do get heat every once in awhile and when i do its really hot

i wanna try figure it out before i stick money into a thermostat or a radiator flush and have that not be the problem

You could also try backflushing the heater core or checking for air pockets.
There have been A LOT of posts on this forum for heating issues, and a lot of cognizant folks have posted their findings. Use the search function and search for "heat" and related key words. I think you'll find several posts with symptoms similar to what you describe. -Rod |
