As a lot of you know I've been really busy lately with my van and I've been spending absorbent amounts of time learning about it. Anyway I've stayed up all night again reading on it and was wondering whats the most likely cause(s) for my cruise control not working?
I know the Break Pressure Control Switch is 1 possible (mine is rusty, but doesn't appear to be bad cause its not WET), but what are some other things people have noticed especially in the 95 - 98 years of why the cruise control isn't working. THANKS !

Re: Cruise control no worky in 95 GL
I had the '95 with no cruise control - and it was the brake pressure switch. It's a known and common problem, and such an easy and relatively cheap fix that imVVVho, it's the place to start. And it's so nice to have it back!

Wasn't there something about the brake pedal and a wire near it too?

Re: Cruise control no worky in 95 GL
The Brake On OFF (BOO) switch controls the brake lights, and the shift interlock.
Yes, one of the wires to the switch can break, and cause you to have a constant open, which results in no brake lights......(maybe no cruise control either), however, like me when it happened, you WILL know right away, as you will be able to start your vehicle.....but you will NOT be able to shift out of PARK. That switch has to be working in order to shift out of park. Could the switch be stuck in the closed position?, yes......and your brake lights would stay ON. I did post pictures of the BOO switch in the pictures that the link in my signature takes you to. It is mounted brake pedal shaft.....just follow it up under the dashboard.

Re: Cruise control no worky in 95 GL
Ford has a massive recall in progress for faulty brake pressure switches that fail and cause fires. My buddy lost his 96 Windstar to one. However, Ford does not include the 'stars in the recall although the part is the same as in the recalled units going all the way back to 1991!!! According to the consumer affairs web site, the recall is for 10 million Ford cars, trucks, and vans. One of the first signs of a problem is loss of cruise controll. Disconnect your cruise harness until you get a new switch and the new fused jumper Ford is putting in their recalls. The jumper is $8.00 at our local Ford dealer if they get anymore in. The parts guy said he hopes to have more by Christmas.
