1990 88 speedometer
I have a couple of question about my speedometer in my 88 Oldsmobile. For some time it would work and others times it would not but most of the time after the car getting running temperature it would work. Well it finally quite and has not worked for some time. Being it is my second means of transportation I did not worry about it. Well my motorcycle went down and I will need to relay on it again. Does the speedometer sensor work off a magnet? I know one time on my motorcycle my speedometer was messing up and I took the sensor out cleaned all the metal shavings off it and for over 60,000 have not had a problem. I know the sensor is on the transmission but could someone give me a better idea where on the transmission it is located?
Thanks |

Re: 1990 88 speedometer
Welcome to AF. Check autozone.com, repair guides, for decent sensor and component location info.

Re: 1990 88 speedometer
Thanks but it did not show a speedometer sensor on their site. 1990 if I am not mistake is the first year for the electronic speedometer. I have Haynes manual but other then torque specifications I have never found them to be real good. Guess I will some more probing.
