http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d8010c01c.jsp Starts at figure 14. Procedure is past that. Click on the figure to blow it up. The 3.0 is a non interference engine so it's likely there is no damage.

Re: broken timing belt while driving

Did you make sure you had the rotor pointing at #1 on the compression stroke? Try turning the crankshaft another revolution (360 deg) bringing the rotor back to #1. Then check the marks again.

What book are you using? My Haynes doesn't say anything about 11 oclock. You might want to try the procedure at the AutoZone link in my previous post. It worked for divot91.

Now that I've read my book here's another possibility. The inner contacts on the distributor cap are offset from the plug wire connections. Here's how my book describes TDC on the compression stroke on the 3.0 ltr engine: "When the rotor is pointing at the number one spark plug wire terminal inside the distributor cap and the ignition timing marks are alighned, the #1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke." It appears you don't go by where the plug wire attaches on the top of the cap to determine where the #1 cylinder firing point is. You go by the position of the contact inside the cap. Are you doing this? It appears there's about a 90 deg difference between them - about how far off you say your marks are.

divot91 Did you run into this problem? Thanks for the thanks and for posting the results.
