security light stuck on

I tried starting my car. and for a few second there was nothing... then she started. Now the blasted security light stays on, doesnt flash she will still start with the keys but it wont go off. Is there any way i can fix this without spending big bucks to see what is wrong? Im just worried that one of these days she wont start at all and i would have a lawn decoration. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it? I was googling it and someone said it might have to do with my alternator? http://www.automotiveforums.com/t307..._light___.html

i just had it replace back in september of 04. It went out the day after i bought the car.

any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much

HEather

Re: security light stuck on

You are about to have trouble with the resistor chip key system...if you have another key for it, try using that and see if it works better (slim chance it's just a problem with the resistor in the key)...but usually it's the contacts in the ignition cylinder going bad.

He just posted a way around it that is much cheaper than the proper repair...you do have to find your key's chip's actual resistance and bypass with one of the same value for it to work...

Re: security light stuck on

yeah i read that but the light never blinked like it did when the car wouldnt start with either key. Took five times to get her to start and about 10 minutes of sitting in the cold. But she fired up after that and had the light on, but went off when starting the car later. So that really didnt seem like the problem I was having. However I did
figure out the problem, talked to the guys at the shop i work at and they told me to test the battery and alternator. Tested them both, and the battery was only putting out enough volts to get the car started. she was hesitant to start so i guess that is what tripped it? Anyways replaced the battery this morning had to go to the parts store three times to buy the tools needed and replaced the battery. Anyways thought I would post what happened.

Since i replaced the battery the light went out and she starts like a champ again.

Thanks so much

Heather
