Automatic lights not working

I tried searching the forum for this but haven't come across any info.

My situation is that whenever the parking brake has been engaged the automatic lights do not work. I have to manually turn on the headlights each morning now. My driveway is on an incline so I use the parking brake. When I go out to start the car in the morning the auto lights won't come on. Sometimes the lights will come on automatically once I release the parking brake. But not always.

Any ideas??

Re: Automatic lights not working

The automatic feature of the headlights is disabled when the parking brake is set. When you release the brake, does the red brake light in the dash go out? If not, the computer still thinks the brake is set, therefore, it won't turn on the headlights.
You didn't post what year Alero you have, but on my 2001, I think the switch that tells the computer the parking brake is set, is near the gearshift between the seats. Yours could be sticking.
