1999 F150 Problems

Hi every one, I have 2 problems with this truck, my ABS light stays on. Is there some kind of cheap sensor that needs changed or is this going to be some hundreds of dollars to fix? When it does not come on my brakes are real funky until the light does finally come on after a few stops.

Another problem I have is (service engine soon) light stays on, is there a very common cause for this or is it going to cost a fortune and many trips to the dealer to tell me it is something that it is not?

This truck has just over 100,000 miles on it. It has a small V8 in it.

XLT

For both of your problems, you need to have the codes read to give a starting point. Auto parts houses(Autozone--Pep Boys) will read the codes for the check engine light for you. The ABS light needs to be read with a scanner that had ABS capabilities. So, you may need to pay to get the ABS code. If you get the codes, post them back and we can help.

Well before I could get the code for my other 2 problems another has poped up. The truck will not go in reverse, any ideas? The trany fluid was a little low so I filled it and it still won't go in reverse, could a linkage or something have poped out?

Is the shifter loose, or does it feel normal? If it is loose, could be something in the shifting cable has shifted, or the shift tube may have cracked. If the shifter feels normal, more than likely it is internal transmission.
