'01 front wheel hub, which design?

My '01 LeSabre has a growling front wheel bearing / hub, so I'm looking for a replacement part and the partsguys are all asking me if it's the:

1st Design; Steel Sensor Wire Clip ($150)
or the
2nd Design; Plastic Sensor Wire Clip ($215)

How do I tell which one I need?



Also, if just one is making noise, should I replace both front hubs?

If it is what I am thinking the part is, (sensor wire for the ABS?) on my 00 it is plastic. Again, if it is what I am thinking, turn your wheels hard left or right and look at the Sensor Wire.
I had a hub replaced at about 90K. The other original is still perfect at 142K. I would only replace it when it starts to "growl".

Thanks, I ended up pulling my hub and taking it to the parts store for comparison. Here's what's crazy: The ONLY difference we could tell was the clip that holds the ABS sensor to the bracket on the car. One (mine, btw) is a metal clip, the other is a plastic 'push-pin'. And there's a $65 difference? Insane.

It's an easy enough job to replace, only I gotta wonder about GM's engineers - they've got little 13mm bolt heads on a honkin' big bolt that oughta be 17 or 18mm, it's too easy to round off those little bolt-heads. I didn't, but I did have a wrench slip off and take out the end of my finger, grrrr.


That, and getting to the O2 sensor and the back 3 sparkplugs...makes me just about want to drive to Flint and slap somebody.

Glad you got it sorted out. GM does some funny stuff, but I think they all do.
I had a Truimph TR7 for years as a hobby car.... now those British folks did some really crazy things.

Uf-Dah! I used to have a '71 MGB as a daily driver, I know *exactly* what you mean.

...electric points-type fuel pumps, only 4 fuses on the whole bloody car, heaters that actually sucked heat out of the car, distributors that'd change the points gap as the centrifugal timing advanced, and my favorite: carburetors that you added oil to.

And of course, good old Lucas electrics....bet we have stories. I am sure between us, we could have the people here laughing hysterically, shaking their heads in disbelief, and probably feeling real sorry for us, all at the same time.
