Splash Guard?

Is there a splash guard under the engine compartment of the Windstar? We have a 96. During a week of rain the alternator light was flickering on and off, but hasn't since it dried out. Peeking into the engine I see the ground below the belts so water appears to have a direct path to the belts.

Re: Splash Guard?

Hi
My '96 has a splash guard in the right wheel well to protect the belt drive but not underneath.

I apoligize for being dense, aren't the wheel wells always more or less enclosed? What do you mean by there being a splash guard in the right wheel well? Thought I guess the splash is coming primarily from the wheels. I may have an alternator going bad and don't need to worry about water coming in the engine compartment.

Hi
Here is a link to Wiswind's photos. This is the right side wheel well. In it you can see the the inner fender skirt does not go all the way to the frame. You can see the flywheel. Just to the right you can see about half of the splash guard I am talking about. It is an odd shape, sort of a rounded triangle as I recall and is attached to the frame with "push screws". It seems to protect the A/C compressor pulley area from road splash.
