I Expeced more

I have a 2002 Durmax 4x4 4 door HD.
I bought this truck 2.5 years ago with 65,000 miles on it.
I put 75,000 miles since I've owned it (mostly highway running empty)
The most I tow with it is 2,000 pounds. The matanence is done at a regular bases at the GM Dealer.
Since I've owned it shes been on the wrecker 4 times, and in for repair 6 times. (Head Gasket, Water Pump, Neutral Switch, Ignition switch, glow plug relay) At a cost of over $5,000. It also has gotten a full set of injectors.
When I bought this truck I was told it was the best truck GM made (I have always bought GM)

Am I expecting to much to think this is excessive?

Re: I Expeced more

Like every make and model there are lemons, sorry to say. It was probably built on a Monday or Friday.

Hopefully this truck will not disuade you in buying GM in the future.

Re: I Expeced more

Imagine how nervous I was that my truck rolled down the line on Superbowl Sunday. It's been good so far, though. It's a 2004.

Re: I Expeced more

Sorry to hear about that, my employer has a 2001 with the Duramax and I do all the maintenance on it, the only problem I have ever ever seen with it was a minor electrical issue with the headlights and his mis-wiring of the trailer brake system. He drives from near Anchorage Alaska to Arizona and other places across the lower 48 and returns here to Alaska year after year, never uses any oil which is Valvoline Delo Synthetic and always starts up. Maintenance and observations of fuel and oil is what I think whats important to a diesel. A diesel engine absolutely must have clean fuel, air and oil. I am cheating here because I have been a diesel mechanic most of my life and there is a lot of mechanics out there that for the most part do not know what makes a diesel get hurt, like trying to treat it like a gas engine for starts. Diesel cooling systems need additional protection from corrosion or pitting, higher compression engines also do not like high rpms when cold, puts a lot of stress on gaskets and bolts. Its a diesel and needs to be driven like a diesel so what I say is nothing personal its what I have learned and is probably why I make my living driving a diesel truck and repairing them but my ride home is a gasser. The Duramax is the best diesel out there on the market and everyone knows it but still its just a collection of machined parts held accountable by its operator.

Re: I Expeced more

I expected more out of mine too, although it is not a diesel.
