Have you BOMBED your truck?

B.O.M.B. = Better Off Modified Baby

There's not too much activity on the diesel forum, so I thought I'd make a little.

What kind of truck do you have, and what performance mods have you done?

I've got a '94 Ram 2500, regular cab, long bed, 4X4, auto, with a 12 valve Cummins.

K&N intake
Bosch 330hp injectors
#8 Banks fuel plate
5" straight piped exhaust
4" downpipe

4.10 gears
Rebuilt and tweaked P-Pump
Suncoast transmission and converter

Right now the truck is mainly used for towing my boat while camping, and a little bit of wheeling in some buddies fields.

I'd like to build it up to enter some pull competitions some day.

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

I love these diesel trucks. I have never gotten to ride in a diesel pickup modded or not. I have driven a 450 hp FL Columbia 10sp with a dd15. It was so much fun without the trailer on it.

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

Too much abbreviation?

It did alot of stuttering in 6th and 7th alot. It was pretty annoying. It really isn't the same as a modified pickup though. just the only experience I have with high power diesels.

Lightbulb Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

The DD15 horsepower range is 455 to 560. link
Even then its rare to find an engine set to the lowest horsepower level, unless its in a fleet truck. Then its usually a split power setting.
Other then the test trucks, I have never seen a DD15 in a Columbia chassis. They are in Cascadia chassis. here. They desigined it specifically for the DD15.
Cat and Cummins still make higher horsepower over the road truck engines. (over 600hp)

if you knew what it was you would know what I was talking about
I'm glad you changed that...
I knew the DD15 when it was the HDE engine. (got warranty certification (G2) papers to prove it, if you want. )
Just wanted you to explain what, when and how you drove a Columbia with a DD15. Thought you confused an '07 Series 60 with a DD15. (even if it was a 60 the 455hp is still low. or its a fleet truck)
Or actually drove the Cascadia and wrote Columbia for whatever reason....

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

That reads kinda rude, it wasnt meant to be. And I am kinda highjacking the thread so.....

I had a (new) 2000 F-2s#!tty with a powerjoke in it. I had a 4" downpipe running into a 5" exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheel. I had a programmer and later a superchip. It also had a 6" lift and 35" tires. (I thought it would "settle" more)
The required K&N filter, gooseneck hitch and window stickers. lol

.....BIGGEST piece of junk I ever owned! Nothing but weird problems...
Meanwhile my friend (still) has a nearly identical F-350....No problems..

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

It was an '08 ryder lease Columbia daycab and I swear it had dd15 stamped right on the engine. I know it was a Columbia because I spent half the month staring at the "Columbia" sticker on the dash in front of the passenger seat. It might have been 455 hp. I didn't really think the extra 5hpower mattered in the conversation. I don't work for the company anymore so I don't have access to the truck. I am sorry I assumed you didn't know what I was referring to. I had no reason to assume you did. Guess I should have read your profile. First rule of commercial driving-Mechanics always think drivers are stupid. So it is ok.

BTW- since you ARE a mechanic What was that surging that I was getting usually only in 6th and 7th but not always. Was it like a boost leak or a computer glitch or something?

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

lamehonda: I didn't mean for that to seem like I was calling you a liar or an idiot, if that is what anyone thought...Sorry. (I'll PM you so we can share info, if anyone else wants to,....PM me )

CarlR: Sorry again.....heres a link to a twin turbo kit...But for the prices they want for for a kit, I would research and build my own. Maybe even make the whole thing...
TruckPro is awesome for finding weird stuff. Thats how I made my exhaust for the Powerchoke..

Re: Have you BOMBED your truck?

I get to drive my friend's Modified Ram 2500HD and Hilux sometimes, but not often.

At work i drive lots of VW-Audi diesels. Which i LOVE.

That's one of my diesel projects, it's quick as it is without the induction pipes or intercooler hooked up. Once they are, it'll be pretty fast.
