Dangerous or no effect?
Hi, my friend recently took the tubing that goes from the air filter to the air box so that he can have more sound. He has an Ek 96 HB D16y7. Alternately i have the same car. Could you tell me;
The Pros; (if any) The Cons; (if any) This was done mainly for sound on his part. I want to know if it is dangerous for the "health" of the car and what is does to performance? I suppose lower Torque at low revs. Bit tell me what you think i might want to do it as the sound is exciting. Thank you! |

Re: Dangerous or no effect?
He is bypassing the restriction in the stock airbox, but having no filter at all is not the best method either. In this case, the risk is not worth the small gains.
If you want noise and a bit more throttle response and power, just get a cheap cold air intake/short ram and go from there...

Re: Dangerous or no effect?
No but on an EK the filter is right on the TD and air intake.... so if you remove everything BEFORE the filter which tecnically you leave the filter there then thats what im woundering....

Re: Dangerous or no effect?
All it really does is quiet the intake noise. Get an actual intake like schister said if you want 3 more hp.
