Big 16g

On SLB its $50 more for the EVOIII Big 16g than it is for the standard Big 16g...Is the Evo worth the 50?

Re: Big 16g

What kind of power are you looking for? If you are looking for like 300-325 I would recommend a 16g, if you are looking for more then its time for a bigger turbo... however more than 325 hp is entirely possible on an Evo III 16g. Personally dude, I would snag yo ass a 16g and get a decent setup for it, get good at tuning and driving and see where you are from there. Also, I would suggest www.maperformance.com over SBR, IIRC the Evo III 16g at MAP is $60 cheaper than SBR. The other thing is MAP is right here in the twin cities, you wont have to wait or pay for shipping.

Re: Big 16g

If you're going with a 16g definately go for the EVO3. That way if you want more power (which you will) you'll have room to work with. It's a good move IMO, the 16g is a great turbo to learn all of the tuning basics and what not. Most likely, after awhile you will get bored with it and want to go bigger. Not to try to discourage you from buying it or anything, because I'm not, I love my 16g, and have been more than impressed with its perfomance since switching from the t-25.

Re: Big 16g

if you understand the difference then you already know the pros and cons. External gate is superior but more expensive. FOr a e316g not worth it IMO.

Re: Big 16g

internal gate on the 16g will creep w/o porting the inlet and outlet of the exhaust housing and the 34mm flapper mod (options by sbr) now the external has rock solid boost control. PERFECT but... you pay for it $$$. for a 16g, internal... for something more like a 20g, 50 trim + i would drop the $$$ and go external... thats what i'm doing anyway, after i max out my E316G...

Re: Big 16g

I think im gonna go with the external gate (on SBR it costs $60 more to get the internal/34mm)

Also, if you were to get one (inlet/outlet) ported which would it be? Or both? Worth 60 a piece?

Or is it fairly simple to do this myself. Although, I would hate to remove too much material and be screwed.

I dont know that this exact DSM will get another rebuild/new turbo so I plan on making it worth my while.

Sorry I played 20Q's with you guys.

And thanks for the tolerance

Re: Big 16g

$60 for a 34mm flapper is nothing compared to what you'll spend getting an external gate. I would have both inlet and outlet ported if you are going to cough up for it. Its definately doable by yourself, but its kind of a pain. Next time I get it done I am probably just going to pay someone to do it.

Re: Big 16g

port both, i'm in the middle of porting mine myself, and it is a ROYAL pain in the ass! but def. do-able! i got a 34mm flapper off ebay for $14 shipped, at SBR they are $20 for the flapper, but they charger to install it... so... its up to you, but if what you are saying is true, no more turbo mods after this, do it right, port both, 34mm flapper, Evo3... IMO

Re: Big 16g

I found some things out today that totally contradicts my previous opinions of the 18g as well. First off, yeah you only get like 2 lb/min more than the EvoIII which is not very much for the extra $150 or whatever, but I found out that its compressor efficiency is much better in the 22-28psi range. Since I am going to pretty much always be operating in that range, I am going 18g. Either that, or maybe a bastard 20g as later on I plan to get a built tranny, some 280's w/ built head, and run the little bastard to death, but until then I am going to try to keep it in the lower range than that.
