Unhappy 3.1 V6 MAF Sensor Location

I wonder where would be the Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) located on the 3.1 V6 engine.

I have a rough idle issue and already changed the injectors, spark plugs and EGR valve to no avail. The vehicle runs good at higher rpm and pulls well otherwise but shakes terribly at idle after reaching engine operating temperature.

Reading on this forum I've heard that the MAF sensor or IAC valve might be the cause but I can't find the MAF sensor on my engine. Do you know where it's located and how can I test it before I change it?

THere is no MAF sensor on this 3.1. THis one uses a MAP sensor...Manifold Absolute Pressure...What year...if before 94 1/2, you can flash the codes if any...www.avigex.ca/xport/readingcodes.jpg

Can that MAP sensor be the culprit for this rough idle behaviour?

Do I need to clean it somehow like you need to do with a MAF sensor?

Re: 3.1 V6 MAF Sensor Location

The MAF sensor is a static device and eventual dirt will not change the pressure reading. Failure should pop a code...but I have experience of "partly" failed sensors that do not pop a code...

Exclamation Re: 3.1 V6 MAF Sensor Location

Thanks for the links. They've been very helpful!

These are pages from the Repair Manual?

Can you tell me where I can find the rest of it? There are some refferences I would like to pursue further.

Re: 3.1 V6 MAF Sensor Location

These are pages scanned from my '93 repair manual and also some provided by other forum members.
a lot of other pages available from here:
www.avigex.ca/xport/index.doc
this linked index is not totally up to date however.
more up tpo date here www.avigex.ca/xport/index.txt but you have to copy the file names into the address bar
YOU can also go to autozone.com and browse to your vehicle. The info is sometimes irrelevant or imprecise though .
If you want very good parts description/availability/price. try www.rockauto.com

Re: 3.1 V6 MAF Sensor Location

Thank you for the excellent info you provided!

I'll browse through it this weekend until my own hard-copy Pontiac Trans Sport Repair Manual arrives.

I've visited autozone's repair info but, as you said, sometimes the info there is too inaccurate to be useful.

Rockauto.com is my part supplier too, I reccomend them for excellent service and pricing.
