Need help

A freind of mine has a 2000 Alero with the 2.4 i think it is a 4 cyl. She drove the car to her moms and when she went to start it. The car would not start it would turn over and sounds like it wants to fire but it doesn't. I check for spark and there is spark. I spray ether in it and it started but died as soon as i stop. I turn the key to the on postion I can hear the fuel pump hummin but it is faint. I took the fuel filter off and put on a new one but that didn't help. From what i remember these cars are known for senders but someone has told me it probably the fuel pressure reg. Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

Welcome to AF, the fuel pressure should be tested to properly diagnose this, also in the future post year and model.
