Can i go higher??

I have a 91 jeep cherokee sport, i recently bought it and the previous owner built his own suspension lift..... He welded some thick round pipe 3 inches high onto the front top spring mount. ( i put it on the hoist at work checked it and it is safe.) and on the back he put a pillow block. What im wondering is would it be possible to add 2 more inches in height by changing springs? I have heard its a good and bad idea.

Any suggestions???? I have access to alignment equpiment after so that will not be a problem.

Lifting a cherokee involves more than just springs and shocks. You need to look under the jeep at the transfer case and see if the previous owner installed a slip yoke eliminator. By the sounds of the rest of the lift it is extremely doubtful that he did. You would be best off to get a full suspension kit for 5-6 inch lift that includes springs, shocks, new front control arms, drop pitman arm, and also at anything above 3 inches you must have a slip yoke eliminator and a rear cv driveshaft.

I've got that on mine right now with the exception of the coil springs i have 2" spacers. I've got 31's and the back has plenty of clearance and haven't had any problems out of the front even at full articulation. However the ride is extremely bouncy especially in the back as if you go over any bumps the shocks bottom out and you can feel it badly and if you hit the brakes with any kind of force or quickness the rear driveline makes ALOT of racket from pulling the slip yoke further out. I would personally recommend saving your money and getting a good lift kit and getting rid of the hack job the previous owner did to it otherwise you face possibly causing damage and end up paying more just to repair the damage than you would have for a good lift kit to do it right. If you stay under 4" of lift then it's highly unlikely that you will need a SYE and could also install a transfer case drop to help with any problems.

Awesome information thanks! At least now i know where i stand and whats possible.... For teh time being i may just trim my fenders, because the tires rub when im turning in a sticky situation..
