2000 Taurus dead battery

Been losing coolant. Diagnosed as leaky gasket and dealer wanted $1500+ to fix. It's 2000 Taurus with 136k so I told them to button it up, maybe I'd trade it. But then I came across a thread on K&W Metallic sealer that is supposed to fix the problem. I had replaced the battery with a new battery, but the engine had been overheating and for some reason the battery would turn slowly or not at all until the engine cooled down. Tonight I started the car up twice while I was draining the coolant. The third time it wouldn't make a sound, even tho the lights, etc. worked. I put a charger on the battery but still not the slightest sound, not even a click. Battery warniing light on dash is on. Not sure if new battery shorted out or what. Any suggestions.

Re: 2000 Taurus dead battery

If you suspect the battery is bad, take it somewhere they'll test it free and find out. If you got a bad one, take it back to the original seller (with your slip, if you still have it) and they'll replace it free. If it's not the battery then you may have a blown fuse or grounded contact or something. I'd consider taking the alternator somewhere to have it tested if the battery comes up as good, though.
