Question How much of this is in my head? Or : 1.8L vs 2.0L Engines

Right off the bat, let me state that I'm a car ignoramus, and the 97 Escort LX is the only car I've ever owned.

However, its time has come, and I'm now looking at buying a 2008 Civic EX-L. That said, I noticed that for all the ribbing I've endured about owning a Ford (and it did break down more often than anyone around me), a quick web search reveals it had a 2.0L engine, while the new Civic would have a 1.8L.

I test-drove the 2008 Civic EX, and I could feel less power than I'm used to.

Is it just psychological? Surely my old Escort can't out-perform today's new Civic EX, could it?

Do I really need to get the SI instead of the EX or LX if I don't want to feel a drop-off in engine power/acceleration?

Just how much of this is in my head?

Re: How much of this is in my head? Or : 1.8L vs 2.0L Engines

The R18a1 engine in the new Civics is not intended to be a rip roaring power monster. It is designed with efficiency in mind. It does have 180bhp which isnt terrible. My advice is that if you're not satisfied with it and can justify the loss of gas mileage and increase in price, the Civic Si is a great buy. It has a k20 engine (tons of potential both NA and boosted), stock LSD and a 6 spd.

It will be a little while until K-Pro comes out with a tuning system for the newest Civic, but in time there will be all sorts of turbo setups and whatnot available for it. The K20 that is in the Civic from Honda is a great engine and has tons of potential like i said already. There have been several boosted K20 setups on Honda-tech that have pushed into the 600whp on the STOCK ENGINE.

In the end, its your decision whether you want a "Point A-to-Point B" car with great gas mileage or a fun tuner...

Re: How much of this is in my head? Or : 1.8L vs 2.0L Engines

i have a 07 civic
ya its 140 with the 1.8
but i think the 1.8 in the corolla has less and the civic has better mpg
also other 2.0s if theyre new may have a little bit more hp but not much
and the older 2.0s i think will have less. that being said i like driving my civic but its not much power especially jumping off from 0. i would love to have an si tho
