Re: Motor Mounts

I've changed out my motor mount before. I made myself a temporary engine hoise but the best thing to do would be to borrow or rent one if you can. Then you just take the bolt out of the middle of the mount put the new one in its place and reconnect everything. The one in the back of the engine is the hardest to get to. I found that out real quickly. When you do take that one out your engine may or may not shift a little on you. If it does shift make sure you get everything lined up again. But that's how I did it. Hope you have good luck.

Re: Motor Mounts

Knowing when to change your motor mounts is usually as simple as inspecting them with a flashlight. If the rubber inside the metal shell is heavily cracked or seperated its time to swap them out. The rear mount may have slim rubber discs sheilding the actual mount rubber, just peel them back a bit and have a look.

Re: Motor Mounts

If you want them to last a little longer you can fill them with a clear silicone caulk which will act as a second bumper to the rubber that is already there.

Even though we own a "Cherry Picker" (Engine Hoist)...No need to use a engine hoist on these Metro's if you dont have one.....Just place a small piece of plywood between a floorjack and the oil pan on the engine, then jack the engine up "Slightly" in order to take the weight off the motor mount you want to change....Remove the bolt on the mount you want to change, then the mount bolts themselves and change the mount. When you done.....lower the floor jack! The whole Engine / Trans setup on these cars cant weigh much more than approx 300 lbs.....
