Time to replace the fuel pump

I have a 2001 Silverado with a 5.3L showing some sings of a failing fuel pump, specifically it's hard to start and the fuel gauge jumps all over the place. I know there are two different main types, with and without evap emissions. How can you tell which one your truck needs?

Thanks,

Kris

Re: Time to replace the fuel pump

Look under your truck in front of the gas tank. If there is a rectangular black box with fuel lines running into and out of it, that is the evap system. If you have the evap system, you need the evap compatible pump.

I would also take a look at the fuel pressure regulator. I wouldn't be surprised if it needs to be replaced as well.

Re: Time to replace the fuel pump

No problem. Good luck with the install, and don't forget to replace your fuel filter while you're at it.
