car starting problem

hey guys..i just bought a 2000 trans am ws6..its 6 speed...has all the bells and whistles..i live in mass..and its just starting to get cold out..and every morning my car has trouble starting..like it cranks but wont turn over..sometimes if i give it gas it will turn over..but its completly random..the car has only 34000 miles on it..the car did not do it when i first bought it a few weeks ago..i first noticed it when i had took the battery out to make a cover for it..then it started..i also had just put a k&n intake system on it..any ideas what the problem could be..please help thanks

Re: car starting problem

Did you elimnate any sensors mainly the intake air temp sensor with the intake addition?

Also, pressing the accelerator on a EFI actually shuts off the injectors, flood mode.

Re: car starting problem

no i didnt eliminate any sensors..the air intake one is plugged in to the filter..maybe it broke in the install though? is that a possiblity? i to thought it could be sensor related..that or battery..or randomly the started went or something???

Re: car starting problem

By you saying that if you press the accelerator and it starts I am thinking the intake sensor is not registering for whatever reason in wich the PCM goes rich, hence lack of injector firing and then it starts.

Re: car starting problem

ok to update everyone on the situation..i replaced the air temperature sensor with a brand new one..only 12$..it didnt solve the problem..i also while i was at it..cleaned the throttle position sensor, which looked brand new..and also the sensor that is above it..i dont know what that is really..so all is clean and plugged in but still not working right..its just so wierd cuz its a random hit or miss if it will start or not..sometimes it starts no problems at all..and others it wont start at all whether or not if im hitting the gas..so does anyone have any other ideas..could it be something dumb like maybe spark plugs..or wires..or the battery..anything..its just stupid embarrasing when you have a nice car like this one..and it doesnt start right up! any feeback is MUCH appreciated!

Re: car starting problem

thats wierd..and you didnt change any things to attempt to fix it..just did it on its own? my car started fine this morning..maybe the new sensor takes a while to start working? ill probly change my spark plugs still..maybe throttle position sensor also..ill pick up a book today on my car and check out specs for things and test voltage and ohms and what not..i also have a skip shift eliminator..think that is some how related???

Re: car starting problem

Weird that it started just after pulling the battery, I'd start by making sure your getting good contacts on the battery ... start with the simple things. Next I'd take the car to autozone & have the computer scanned for free ... you didn't mention any lights coming on, but if its a bad sensor it should show up on the computer! Last check your fuel pressure, could be a dirty fuel filter not allowing enough pressure, hence the long cranking till it fires up. Last thing that wasn't clear, is the engine constantly turning over when you try to start it? What I'm getting at here is you could have a problem with your starter or clutch safety switch if the starter cuts out. Good luck & I hope something I said might help lead you to the problem.

Re: car starting problem

well i just changed my spark plugs..btw..omg!!! no room to work with in there..over 2 hrs to do that..but i dont think it worked..ya but the battery gets good voltage all the time..and has good connections..ive checked many times..fuel filter was something i had thought of too..but the car will continue to crank until i stop..cant be starter..anything think its a sensor of any sort? throttle position sensor maybe? thanks guys all the feedback is eliminating many things..
