question
I'm thinking of purcaseing a 1995 2WD silverado, with a 350, towing package, ext cab ect.
my big question is , how well can two wheel drive get me though the winter? i live in michigan. also, whats steps are needed to put in a new EGR valve? thanks a bunch.

not very well... rear wheel drive with no weight on the wheels... Put weight in the back and add some good tires and you might be allright, but 4x4 is def the best way to go.

Probably not as bad as a camaro. They can be a little ridiculous on snow and ice. I will never own a 2wd truck because being stuck in a slippery parking spot is enough for me to justify buying a 4wd.

I used a brace that goes across the back of the truck and put full five gallon hydraulic oil cans filled with used oil all across the back. Make sure they are dirty or they might steal them. They sell braces at northern equipment they look like a chrome brace you would put in the basement but are thinner. You can remove the bags when you have a warm spell.
The egr usually has two bolts and a vacuum hose on it just do the job with the engine off.

i would install a differential locker. i added one to my 97 k1500 4wd with "open" differential and rarely use the 4wd in winter. the truck performs just as well without extra weight and i no longer add any.
i bought the "POWERTRAX No-Slip Traction System" over 4 years ago and i have had no problems at all. i also live in michigan... northern lower

Since it has the towing package, it might already have the G80 locker RPO Option (see SPID Sticker in the glove box). See if both wheels spin when you loose traction (dirt or wet road).
If both wheels spin, good snow tires and some weight over the rear diff (sand bags, they also make a special tank that holds water), it will as good as your Camaro (or better). If only one wheel spins, a locking diff is a must. //2000CAYukon

I took old truck tire inner tubes, cut them in half and filled them with sand, sealed the ends by folding over and heating it with torch until soft, then clamped between two pieces of steel to set the seam. They lay over the wheel wells very good and are easy to carry and store. I've used them for well over 7 years now and still holding up good.
