99 Suburban fuel system problem after replacing pump

Here goes. I have a 99 Sub K1500. The fuel pump died on me about a moth ago, I ordered a new OEM pump and installed it with the new wiring harness that GM didn't want to recall, and the plastic seal.

I started it up the first time, it was like magic!

After the first start, well, it wont start on the first crank anymore.

Is seems as if I have to wait for the pump to turn on. I have to wait for that initial whining noise from the pump before I can start the truck successfully.

Maybe I messed up something like the evaporation tubes?
Or didn't put something related to the pump back on right?
I know it's not the fuel filter since I put a new one in.

It is as if the fuel system looses pressure when I turn the truck off and have to wait for it to repressurize when I try to turn the truck on.

I had a very similar problem on another vehicle I owned, a 97 Hyundai Sonata. Turns out a tiny, 10 cent gasket in the fuel pump had deteriorated and the fuel system was loosing pressure when the car was off. So your problem might be related... However, I had my car repaired at a shop so I am not aware of what other potential problems they eliminated prior to finding the solution.

If you get it fixed, please post the resolution as I am considering replacing the fuel sending unit on my 99 Suburban and may run into the same problem. Thx.

Check your fuel presser. Make sure it holds presser for at least 5 mins after you turn off the key. Check to see how long does it takes to build presser when you first turn on the key. Dave
