Here's the situation

Hello friends-

Been awhile. I hope all is well. So I've been kicking car ideas around for a bit and debating about whether or not I want to keep my birdy and I think I've decided yes. The only problem is:

The engine is not as happy as it once was and the tranny is knock knock knockin on heaven's door. It responds horribly to agressive acceleration, often stalling in high RPM, sort of like if you were to throw it into first gear at 80 mph. I'm afraid replacing the tranny will kill the engine. Any ideas or suggestions? I will eventually replace the engine with a more powerful block. Perhaps I should baby the transmission and do it all at once?

Thanks

Re: Here's the situation

Repairing the transmission won't kill the engine but the loose nut behind the wheel with a heavy foot might! If you're afraid you can't control yourself then do them at the same time.

Re: Here's the situation

Haha Don't worry, it's not that bad. Once I learned the situation I started to be good. My biggest probelm is driving on big highways. I'm actually a pretty calm driver for the most part, but in a situation where the road is a two way two lane road and I'm stuck behind a truck going 25 mph under the limit and the limit is 60, I can't really pass cause the transmission sort of does it's own thing. But thanks for the input. I'll be good =)

Re: Here's the situation

Would it be cheaper in the long run to replace the block and transmission as a single clip as opposed to doing them seperately? Thanks.

If you are paying someone to install them, it would be cheaper to do them at the same time.

Are you getting both at the junk yard or putting in two rebuilt units in the car. Its makes a difference. Its hard to recover your money on a vehicle this age.
