Mustang sputtering and stalling
Hi. I have a 99 ford mustang, 3.8 litre v6 with 155k miles. Sometimes it sputters and hesitates when I press the accelerator pedal past a certain point while driving. As I drive it gets worse until pressing the pedal at all causes it to sputter, backfire and eventually die out. Sometimes this can take 10 or 15 minutes but sometimes it doesn't die out at all.
The strangest thing of all is if I turn the car off and restart it it's fine... For a while. The problem seems to be completely random and intermittent, though it only occurs after the engine is hot. Any ideas what it might be? |

Re: Mustang sputtering and stalling
I had what seemed to be a similar issue in my subaru. My problem had all to do with fuel/air mixture. As it would turn out i decided to bag my old injectors and dropped in high performance ones. While replacing them I found i had 3 with almost completley blown seals and 2 had shattered tips. once that was done I noticed an incredible boost in performance and havent had that problem since. Hope this might steer you in a direction.

Re: Mustang sputtering and stalling
I had the same problem with a chevy tuck I had. It would run great then all of a sudden if you pressed the gas down past a ceartain point it would start popping and missing. It turned out to be the fuel pump. Good luck

Re: Mustang sputtering and stalling
Could be anything from a bad TPS throttle position sensor to a bad EGR valve or IAC. I would get it scanned before doing anything. Most auto parts stores will do 96 and up for free. Advance auto will.....in hopes of getting your business and well worth it. Could be many things, i.e. exhaust, fuel, air, etc. Get the scan first, you'll be glad you did. Moneywise anyway.
