Air conditioning pump removal

95 Grand Am. 2.3ltr. 125k miles. The pump is going to need replacing. Can I take it in to a auto shop and have them remove the freon, then so I can replace the pump myself? Thanks.

Re: Air conditioning pump removal

yeah some shops will do this for you for a small fee.
$25-40 depending on location.

Might be a good time so switch over to the new refrigerant if your 95 hasnt already. R-22 (freon) refrigerant wont be for sale after Jan 2010, that will be the end of R-22.

Re: Air conditioning pump removal

Just got a "small fee" number from the local shop. $95 to remove it, $200 to put it back in. I'm in the wrong business!

Re: Air conditioning pump removal

Just to remove the refrigerant... ... Ouch !!

That is exactly why people just let it out into the air,
then get it recharged.

Heck they should pay you for it, it's all recycled/resold.
