Headlight restoration

I have a 94 headlight, but its mildly faded and its condensing inside. I was wondering if i could use buffering compounds to restore the paint because some say not to use abrasive materials on the headlights.

Re: Headlight restoration

A '94 headlight is glass and not paint. Theres a plastic peice on the inside that's painted the same color as the car so buffing the outside will do nothing. Just put the assembly in the oven about 300 degrees for 5-10 mins and pull them out. Then just carefully pry the glass off and clean the inner glass (REALLY GOOD). While your at it, I would reccommend doing the robo mod it looks amazing. Check out the lights in my sig, you can kinda see them just not too well. Want more pics just PM me.

Re: Headlight restoration

There is ZERO need to buff that. The condensation on the glass is what makes it look so bad.

Re: Headlight restoration

No. The 95-98 headlights are painted on the inside of the cover.

Re: Headlight restoration

well the 94 headlights look like theres water on the inside where the lexan headlights look kinda chipped or wrinkly on the inside.

Here's a 94 headlight:

And a 95-98 headlight:

See how the lexan ones look like the paint is right on the glass itself and the 94s look like the little plastic insert is behind the glass? It's totally noticable.

Also, here's the "robo" mod I did to mine:

Re: Headlight restoration

well one more question...do the 97 lights come with clearcoat on the outside and it has light chips as if it were clearcoat, because one of my headlights is scratched very lightly and i was wondering if i would be able to buff this out

Re: Headlight restoration

yes, 95-98 headlights have a clearcoat on them.
