Windscreen sensor

Hi, I've got an E39 528 Tourer and my rain sensor has packed up. Can anybody give me any clues in what to look for please. Thanks. RAY

Re: Windscreen sensor

A new sensor....or the wiper switch, or a desert?

I'm confused as to what you are asking.

Maybe try cleaning the sensor?

Re: Windscreen sensor

What I'm actually asking is if anybody can give me any advice in fixing the fault. I have been led to believe the sensors can be reset but I truly don't know. Also if anybody else has had this fault how did they overcome it. Is there a way of testing the sensor, if not how do you replace it. And yes I HAVE tried cleaning it.

Re: Windscreen sensor

Well you do know where it is so that's the first step.

To test try putting a voltmeter on the connection and see if you get a reading.

Also try to locate the fuse for that sensor and see if it is blown. If it is, replace. Could be the same fuse used for the rest of the wiper controls...that is if the wipers don't work at all.

You can ALWAYS ask a BMW mechanic if it can be reset or not. Remember advice is always free.
