The engines on these cars are fantastic! But I will say that the auto trans dont hold up too well. As far as maintenace, they arent bad at all imo, and you can even use regular gas! (thats a big deal to me now )

As far as begginer upgrades, the usual as far as air filter and such, and most often missed, change the fuel filter to a 300zx fuel filter, cost ten dollars and made my car run much smoother and got to the power band faster. And best of all the z filter fits the stock tubing!

Re: im new at this

They are great cars, extremely reliable. They take punishment like a champion. I.E. jumping sand dunes with completely stock setup. I dont know why some people are saying the auto trans is unreliable, couldnt be further from the truth. Its not uncommon to see 200k+ miles on original auto trans with nothing more than pan gasket and fluid changes. Upkeep is also pretty cheap now that the 240 has soared in popularity. As for recommending upgrades for a beginner it all depends. What do you want to accomplish with the car. Straight line speed, auto x, drift, top speed, or something else? I dont know how old you are, but if this is your first car then the best upgrade is learning to drive the car a bit before you do anything to it. Then start off with a good tune up. After that like I said it all depends on what you want with the car.

Re: im new at this

im wondering just what u could do to 1 for acceleration + handeling for about say 3000 bucks. i am 16 and no this is not my first car, i have done drag races and everything since i got my license and i am possibly selling my 3000gt due to mechanical issues and am looking for a good replacement, trust me i can drive. im not huge into drifting nor am i into top speed, i just wanna know if its possible to get one of these to out accelerate LT1 camaros and such (common cars at the strip and otherwise that always talk trash), thanx.

Re: im new at this

Anything is possible. It will be hard with that much money to out accelerate an LT1, even from a roll. The basics with intake, header, and exhaust will give you a small increase. Not too noticeable. Also reflash the computer and play with some tuning. Weight reduction will also help with acceleration and is free, however there isnt too much weight with the car to begin with. Stickier/ wider tires will also help as long as they arent heavier. Handling would be wider stickier tires again, not 20 inch rims tho haha. Simple shocks and spings. Strut braces. There are all kinds of websites out there now, as well as info in some magazines. of course i dont know how mechanically sound you are but custom turbo kit is always an option. I hope this helps a little bit. its a little hard to tell you everything over the internet, but good luck they are a blast to drive.
