Cam Shaft Synchro Chirping

Just a heads up to Taurus owners who may not be familiar with this problem. I started getting a high pitched chirping noise coming from near center of the engine. Problem was initially worse at start up and got better with warm engine. It got worse over time where chirping was so loud it was annoying.
I was confused because the sound wasn't coming from belt area. This is a 2002 Taurus with 55k miles. Fortunately, I still have a Ford ESP plan active. I took it to my dealer who quickly diagnosed it as cam shaft synchro going bad. Would have cost about $400 for Ford to repair. Thankfully it was $50 with my ESP plan. Apparently this is a pretty common problem. Service tech told me he had just replaced the one in his Taurus.

Re: Cam Shaft Synchro Chirping

Usually starts to go around a 100K and is pretty common for the Vulcan engine.

Part is 40 bucks from the parts store and takes a little bit of finese to fix.
