Subwoofers and Amp

I am currently looking for 2 subwoofers and an amp so that I can upgrade my sound system . I am unsure on how to match things up without blowing everything in my car.
I Do have a JVC 180watt CD player,2 Sony 6x9 400watts Max in the rear dash .

What I am going to get- I plan on buying 2 6.5 Sony Xplod 240watts max for in the door panels, and a Sony Xplod Amp that is 3/4 channel at 600 watts.

Now I just need to know if this is the proper Amp that I need and what subwoofers I can use with all this combination.

Hopefully I made myself clear..lol, I have no Idea on how to match this stuff up. So If you can help me I would appreciate it.

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

well that all depends on how loud u want it. i would say to just let ur head unit power ur door speakers, use 2 channels of ur amp to power both ur rear deck speakers, and bridge the remaining 2, or just use the one left over. to power a sub. a decent 10" in a ported box is well loud enough for a cavalier, but you may want to go louder. if it was me. i would get a 4-channel amp with a lil more power and a bigger sub. but thats just my 0.02. if u get any bigger of an amp, you might want to think about getting at least an 0.5 farrad cap.

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

I don't understand how you match the watts from the subwoofers and the watts from the amp. I mean lets say I have a 600 watt 3/4 ch amp,how many watts from two subwoofers could it handle?

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

you have to look at what the amp it telling you to do in order to get that 600w

600peaks isnt as important as what it is continuous.

so it could be
2x 150watts @ 4ohms stereo
2x 300 watts @ 2ohm stereo

I top model 10 inch woofer will put up tighter louder and deeper bass then a mediocre 12 inch

1 eclipse, or fosgate or L5 kicker will have a fast enough response for rock to metal and still have enough depth to bump. If you arent worried about what it sounds like outside of the car a 10inch will do if you do NOT settle for a mediorce speaker.

Not skinmping on the subs and amp will not disappoint you.
I suggest JL audio or soudstream amps, dopnt go with kenwood or such because there ratings are based on 14.4 volts, and that makes the total distortion high. JL audio is a consistant 12 volts and rates its power at 75% of peak. You can buy a kenwood for 150-200 but it will not compare to the JK audio by a long shot trust me.

So in other words, you can do 2 audiobahn 10 inch subs and an audio ban amp for maybe 500 bucks and it will sounds pretty good. Or you can buy 1 eclipse 10 inch and a Jl audio amp for 650 and it will sound so clear and powerfull you'll love it. JL audio makes a 500 watts x 1 amp that will drive up to 3 high profile 10s.

you can grab these 10s by the rubber surround and pick it up they are so frigging tough

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

I found a kit I can buy, I wanted to see If you guys thought it was a good one and If the subwoofers and AMP will work togeather.(only the subs will be powered by the amp)
I know it's not the BEST setup but it's what I can afford for now and I am pretty sure it will sound better then what I got now. So here's what I got so far... 2 Sony Xplod Subwoofers XS-L103P5B 10" 1200 watts P5-Series 330W RMS 1200W Max Power,Sony Xplod 1000 watt AMP 2Ch XM-1652Z. I already have 2 subwoofer enclosures that I am currently using, If I removed them would I be able to use them for the sony subs?
Okay, so let me know If this combination will work.

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

You have to be very careful when matching subs to amps because manufacturers will lable the subs and amps with the PEAK wattage. The peak wattage means little. What you need to look for is the RMS wattage. If those are matched (between the sub(s) and amp), the system should perform well. If they are not matched, you risk damage to the speakers or amp.

Also, you must match the RMS wattage by the impedance (Ohms). Amps can push more power through 2 ohm subs than 4 ohm because there is less resistance. If you wire two 4-ohm subs together IN PARALLEL, you can lower the impedance to 2 ohms, which allows you to reach a higher wattage for your money.

Hope that helped...and didn't confuse you too badly! =)

Re: Subwoofers and Amp

want sumfin cheap that thumps put 2 12'' kicker comps like 400 watts max 150 rms, if your into rap/hip hop or 2 10'' kicker comps 300 watts max 150 rms, if your into techno/metal for faster response. and a 400 watt amp
i heard 2 of these 12'' subs with a basswerks (square ported) box on a 350 watt amp! and this was unreal, *note: be sure to ask your local dealer about ohms if you do it yourself.
get the amp that pushes its max to your subs ohm rating have fun
