Displacement?

Ok im back on research again. Does displacement mean the amount of space the driver for the sub takes up in the box? and dont you add that amount of space to the size of the box that you want, to make up for the displacement? And when a company tells you the "suggested size" do they normally calculate the displacement into that size?

And I still need help figuring out the demensions of my box but I havent realy even had time to work on it.

Thanks again
keep it real

Re: Displacement?

Yes driver displacement will detract from your internal volume. Usually the company will give the driver displacement and recommend the overall volume. I dont think they usually include driver displacement unless they tell you they do.

Re: Displacement?

if the box is sealed, the driver dsplacement isn't that big of a deal ...... in a ported box, it may make a difference

Re: Displacement?

Well my box is going to be sealed and I was up till all hours of the morning figuring out the demensions. So can you tell me if this will work?

Ok the out side of the box is going to be 54" (4.5 feet) long, 17" (1.4 feet) high, and 8" (.7 feet) wide. I am going to have to put 2 divider inside the box to make the inner demensions match the recomended size for each sub. So the dividers will be placed 17" (1.4 feet) from each side of the box, and its still going to be 1.4 feet high and .7 feet wide.

1.4 x 1.4 x .7=1.372 feet cubed (and each sub will have that amount of space)

This is the website I used to get the needed demensions: http://www.diamondaudio.com/PDF/arch..._Sub_Specs.pdf

And my last question is, is it wide enough because when the sub is flexing it is only going to have something like .6" between the back of the sub and the box. So would it be hitting the box?

Thanks,

Re: Displacement?

only the cone moves, not the whole sub., if the magnet doesnt hit the back of the box when y ou put the sub in, it never will... because its stationary.

i would honestly go ported.. i went ported last week.. i built the box to my specs and built it right, 3.4 cubes tuned to 27hz (tuned low for better sound quality) before displacement, the output is amazing from what ti was sealed, and the bass is still as tight and clean as it was sealed. I dont think ill ever run a sealed box again.

Re: Displacement?

ya I thought about going ported for a long while but I decided to go enclosed when I learned how easy it was and i can save more space that way, but it seems like i have enough room in my box alredy to go ported.. il probly be thinking about it again.
