WIP: 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault

Hey,

I will be building the 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault. This will be my first F1 model, so it will not be the best looking. If anyone has and reference pictures or suggestions about the model please feel free to tell me, this will really help me alot. I will not be adding any PE sets or anything, just going to be a normal build as I mentioned earlier this is my first F1 model.

Hope you will enjoy.

Zubski

Re: WIP: 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault

Welcome to AF and F1 1/20th scale.

Take a look at DaveSans FW13B WIP for some inspiration. There are some photos of my first F1 build, which coincidentally was also a FW13B also on AF, which you can find a link to in my signature. I will send you a PDF via PM too.

Kind regards,
Bill

Re: WIP: 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault

Hey Zubski,

The FW13B must be a popular choice to learn with. I am currently working on the FW13B as my first model. This is my first attempt at modeling since i was a teenager so first try at airbrushing, putty, primer, aftermarket decals etc. DaveSans FW13B is a great example of this kit.

Good luck with the build and looking forward to your progress.

Re: WIP: 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault

Hello Zubski and welcome

First thing make sure you test fit your part before final assembly. I had some problems with ride height where the wheels didn’t touch the ground just could have been my kit but would have like to knew that a little earlier in the build.

If you plan to use the decals for the blue get some Micro Set and Micro Sol decal setting solution. Just remember the Micro Sol is very strong and can melt the decals. So take your time with them especially with the bigger decals.

Here is a link to some reference photos there is not a lot out there in the way of pictures of this car.

There is as a link to my build in my signature good luck looking forward to build please keep us informed of your progress would love to see some photos any question you cam pm me I try to help you in any way I can.

P.S. Bill and Darren thanks for the kind words

Hi Zubski,

There are half a dozen photos of the car on track at F1-facts.com. The Andy Mathews Clear View book of the FW14 is superb in its own right and although it is the Williams car from 1992 it is similar and will give you plenty of good reference photos for materials and colours.

What you need to do is sign up for a free photo bucket account upload your photos there then link them to your post by copy and paste the Img code into your post. It is quite simple to do once you get the hang of it. Here is the link

Re: WIP: 1/20 Tamiya Williams FW-13B Renault

Hey,

Thanks for the help.

OK! Finally started my first F1 model.

I puttied the little dips and sanded them(not sure what they are called).
Started to paint the Undertray. The paint went on ok, not as good as i would like. I am useing a airbrush i got cheap at walmart.
Should have more progress tomorrow.

Thanks for viewing.
